Born the son of a Muslim Imam in Morocco, Rachid memorized one-sixth of the entire Quran by age 6. He attended Hassan II University in Casablanca, where he studied economics and computer science. A careful self-study of the differences between Islam and Christianity led him to take correspondence courses for 4 years. This, in turn, led him to give his life to Jesus Christ in 1990.
For 15 years, Rachid lived as a secret convert in Morocco. He studied journalism, received training in Bible translation with the Bible Society, and was the main coordinator for translating the Bible into the Moroccan dialect for 6 years. He also served the underground church by helping new Muslim-background believers grow in their faith and developed networks between secret Christian cell groups. He distributed literature, wrote newspaper articles, delivered lectures, spoke on radio programs, and held meetings to discuss and debate Christianity. In 2009, Rachid wrote and published a book about the inimitability of the Quran.
While in his homeland, Rachid began a project to translate the Quran into local dialects. He found that more than 80 million in the Arab world don’t truly understand what the Quran teaches because they hear it in an old, classical dialect of Arabic, which they don’t speak. Rachid firmly believes that the more Muslims know what the Quran says, the more their eyes will be opened and they will leave it. He also wrote a manuscript that closely examines the miracles of the Quran. In addition, he founded two organizations and a magazine, which were shut down by Moroccan authorities for suspected evangelical activity. In July 2005, Rachid finally left Morocco because of continuing persecution.
Since then, Rachid has hosted television shows that compare Christianity and Islam, including 55 taped episodes of Unveiling the Mask and nearly 300 live episodes of Daring Questions. Rachid’s deep knowledge of both faiths enables him to boldly challenge false beliefs with wisdom, love and respect. Daring Questions features dynamic testimonies of Muslim-background believers and gives followers of Islam the opportunity to ask questions about the Christian message through lively on-air phone calls. The program also exposes the plight of oppressed Christians in Muslim countries, refutes misconceptions about Christianity, which are often perpetuated by major media outlets in the Middle East, and fearlessly tackles other controversial topics. Christian converts share their testimonies on the 90-minute show each week, and thousands of viewers have called the program’s live prayer line or visited its websites – many to accept Jesus Christ as their Savior.
